January Goal: New Habits

Alycia and I have decided that each month we will set a goal together. We will announce our goals on the first of each month, and try to commit to them through our blog. At the end of the month we will recap our progress. We hope that you will participate with us! This month we are focusing on creating new habits - and next month we should probably focus on keeping them!

While we just made this goal today, I can confidently say that it is something I've been working at for the past few weeks. My greatest New Year's resolution is to live a more balanced life. This may be a cliche goal, but it is also a sensible one.

My first step in the right direction has been adding a spinning class to my weekly routine. I should tell you that I have an irrational fear of group fitness, so this is not as easy as it sounds. I am also NOT a morning person, so the class being at 6:30 a.m. on Wednesdays does not help my cause either! My biggest hope is that I can break the habit of hiring a personal trainer every time I feel l need to re-motivate, and start the habit of using the resources that are already included in my too-expensive NYC gym membership. The extra spurt of energy mid-week isn't a bad perk either!

Do you have a new habit you want to start this month?

Welcome to Feel Good Foodies!

Welcome to Feel Good Foodies, a blog about food, and daily activities surrounding food, that make us feel good. This notion of feeling good may not always mean ‘healthy,’ but all good things come in balance, right? We are two twenty-something city-girls who are working to enhance our nutritional knowledge and around-the-kitchen knowhow.  This blog is meant to document and share our foodie explorations, nutritional liberation, and recipe acquisition. Make sense? If not, it will all become clear in the next few posts! Meet your Feel Good Bloggers:

Christina: Christina has made it her objective to discover New York City through food, and still stay in shape. She experiments with healthy recipes, but most of her posts will likely surround comfort food, as she is a carb aficionado. Christina lives with her boyfriend on the Upper East Side, and loves experimenting with new recipes and entertaining dinner guests. When Christina isn’t thinking about cheese and bread, she writes a shopping blog: The Happy Shopaholic.

Alycia: Alycia has always been a natural advocate for eating well and feeling good.  A reformed vegetarian in college, her nerdy hobby of investigating nutritional facts and healthy recipes made her come thisclose to morphing from music major to nutritionist.  Now a New York City working girl by day and musician by night, Alycia enjoys playing both the piano and with foods of all kinds.  Alycia lives with her fiancĂ© in Astoria (the Greek-food mecca of NYC) and balances his “meat & potatoes” appetite with her healthy & experimental tastes.

We think that with both of us blogging, you will likely experience a nice yin-yang of comfort food vs. nutritious food and hopefully some dishes that meet both of those requirements! Please feel free to comment with advice or questions. We want this blog to be host to open dialogue on ways to feel good about what we eat!
