Foodie Field Trip: Ayza

Alycia and I have been blogging very little lately, but I can assure you that we haven’t been eating very little. Everything has been crazy busy, but we’ve still are finding time for quick lunches and coffee breaks together, and even dinner dates!

Last week, we set out with one goal in mind: wine. Our first thought was to go to Sweet Revenge, an adorable tiny cupcake/beer/wine bar in the West Village. We actually did go there, but wound up quickly leaving. Online they boast a full menu that includes sandwiches and other non-cupcake food, but when we arrived, they pretty much only had cupcakes to offer. So we went a short walk to the corner and settled on Ayza, another wine bar, and I am glad we did.

We started with a sample of their red sangria, which was absolutely delish. I would have ordered it if I didn’t have white wine on the brain. I wound up with a Riesling and I do not remember what Alycia ordered, but I do know it was yummy.

Wanting to include our food of the month in the dinner party, we ordered a blue crab and avocado salad to start. It had tiny bits of lime and radishes, and was served with lemon vinaigrette. I highly recommend it.

Second, we both could not resist the wild mushroom pita tart. I was expecting something more like a pita pocket sandwich, and the dish actually came out completely different (probably better) from what I had expected. It was delicious! The pita was laid out and cut like a mini pizza, with fresh mozzarella, arugula, truffle drizzle and shaved parmigiano atop the pita. It was a melty, cheesey, mushroomy delight.

All in all, Ayza was the perfect spot for our foodie date. The atmosphere was conducive to gossiping over wine, what could be better on a random weeknight?
